Unfortunately, I didn't get into deep down indepth studying my genealogy until after my father passed from this world. I'm learning things now that he never knew as far as I know in his lifetime. My journey has lead me to seeking solace in cemeteries and quiet libraries; to discovering cousins in other states I had never met before.
Thankfully, my mother's side (Wease & Pettyjohn) of the family tree hasn't been too hard. I have a couple of cousins that have done extensive research already, One local cousin and a cousin in Colorado. Their work has been invaluable!! My cousin from Colorado has a nice genealogy site also, I added the link in the "Helpful Links" section.
Now, my father's side (Summers & Wilder) of the tree *uggh*, now that's a different story. I'm having to scratch, scrape and grab for each and every little piece of info I get about his side of the family.
Genealogy is like a jigsaw puzzle with lots of pieces that have been misplaced. A piece here and a piece there have fallen on the floor and gotten kicked under the couch or chair. When you find those missing pieces, you jump for joy and hurriedly put that piece into the puzzle that is slowly developing into a picture. That picture is who you are deep down. It's a collage of you, your parents, their parents and so on. It's quite an amazing thing actually.
Unfortunately, most places online charge you to do genealogy research, BUT if you take your time you can glean information from the pages and then use that information and go to your local genealogy places and obtain the accurate documented information that you need for your research.
